Recently, I have been thinking about altering my #aesthetic as I continue to mature in adulthood. This past July I turned 27, though that is still considered "young" to most, I feel that it is also the proper time to be aware of the changes of my body. I remember having a conversation with a friend a few years ago about us being in our twenties and recognizing that we can't get away with eating whatever we want when we want (anymore). The transition is subtle and can sneak up on you! As you get older, your metabolism may slow down, or you may begin to notice that foods you use to enjoy are not settling in your body as they did before. I'm having to face the fact that I need to cut back on my coffee intake. I usually have 2 cups, but I need to cut it down to 1 in the morning. I like a lot of cream in my coffee, yet my body has been sending me cues that that is too much sugar! This causes me to think about conversations that I have had with my parents. My mom and dad have told me about how there are foods they can't enjoy anymore since they've gotten older. I keep what they have shared with me in mind because those same foods may effect me as I mature in age; helping to avoid any discomfort, irritation, and health problems in the long run. My parents, both under 60 (which is still "young" in my opinion), are an example of how our bodies continue to mature from year to year; giving hints to let us know that we can't have the diet of a 19 year old college student! Having a healthy routine is vital in aging with grace.
Everyone, at one point or another, thinks about becoming "old" and dreading it, but it doesn't have to be something that you don't look forward to. To grow old is a blessing. There are people who haven't made it to my age (or your age). I believe growing older is to be granted the luxury of time. All of this has caused me to become focused on what I'm putting into my body and how I'm caring for my body. I want to reap the benefits in the long run; enabling me to age with grace! Regardless of how old I am, I want to look my best and feel my best. There are people who are literally "ageless", meaning that when you look at them, you can't figure out how old they are because they just look that good! There are beautiful healthy adults that are "up-in-age" and it's all because they took the steps that are necessary to mature naturally with poise.
MY AESTHETIC:
*These are some tips of mine to help you embrace getting older as a #millennial*
- Drink More Water: It's recommended for adults to drink half an ounce or an ounce of water daily. Some professionals speculate on the exact amount and everyone is different. I believe the more water you drink, the better for your skin. Water is not only refreshing, but hydrating. What you digest daily is reflected in the quality of your skin. People have done "water challenges" showing the results of drinking only water instead of another substitute drink; revealing the transformation of their skin and body. It's not miraculous, but it is essential to aging gracefully and living your best life!
- Don't Forget Your Neck: You can tell someone's age by simply looking at their neck. Sounds odd, I know, but it's also true! Like counting the rings on the bark of a tree, a person's neck reveals the reality of their age. I think most people don't pay too much attention to their neck area until it's too late. Necks can sag and wrinkle as one grows older. To help avoid this, I'm taking action now, in order to prolong this undesirable facet of aging. Right now, I'm applying my facial scrub(s) and cream to my neck area. I suggest investing in a "anti-wrinkle" cream that contains Retinal (a form of vitamin A) as it minimizes the appearance of wrinkles, helps to keep your skin firm, as well as a slew of other benefits that it provides. The key is to start now while you're in your mid-late twenties/early thirties. When you're prepared for it (getting older) then you can easily embrace it!
-Wear Less Make Up: Wearing foundation every day clogs your pores and is an easy way to gain more bumps and pimples instead of getting rid of them. Make Up is an easy way to conceal blemishes, but it doesn't heal blemishes! It's time to take better care of your skin by addressing those blemishes in order to obtain a clearer/healthier complexion. The better condition that your skin is in the younger you will look. I'm a girly-girl and I enjoy doing up my make up like any other #barbie! But, I also enjoy giving my face a break, by not wearing any make up for days at a time so that my skin can breathe. My goal is to be completely #foundationfree and only rock concealer, mascara, lipstick (and eye shadow on occasion). My older self will thank me for taking action now in preventing unwanted fine lines and wrinkles.

-Exercise More: Make working out your lifestyle! It doesn't have to be strenuous like lifting weights or running 10 miles a day. There are simple beginner workouts ranging from walking to kickboxing. Carve out at least 15-20 minutes in your day (morning or night) to commit to exercise. I workout 4 times a week for 15-30 minutes depending on the exercise. I like to do a Cardio, Pilates, Kickboxing mix that targets all the major muscle groups while only using my body weight. My goal is to remain slim and toned not jacked like a body builder. Exercising speeds up your metabolism enabling you to burn more calories and lose weight. Cardio workouts keep your heart beating fast so that you will breathe in more oxygen and burn calories. Doing this now and developing a routine that you can maintain will pave the way for you to stay in shape and age gracefully; removing the fear of growing old and not being young.
