Today will be more of a rant on why I no longer wear powder/liquid foundation and what I do instead to give my face a 'matte finish' plus how I keep my oily skin at bay.
It has been probably about five months since I have officially stopped wearing any type of foundation. I had a photo shoot in July where foundation was used and when it comes to acting I don't desire to use the product either(unless I'm modeling because it comes with the territory).
I'm excited about taking care of my skin and obviously I'm really into natural techniques that will benefit my face instead of spending tons of money on products; especially when there's so many being promoted to us constantly that you sort of feel like if you don't have what they're selling then you're missing out/not getting what you need to treat your 'problem area'! As my face has begun to clear from faithfully using ProActive I have also become more confident in wearing less makeup/going makeup free, but my face throughout the day gets oily causing it to shine and giving me a 'sweaty effect' when I wasn't perspiring at all. For the past three-four months I have been using shine control powder to keep my face shine free all day with just a touch-up to my nose here and there. I even wear it when I'm just inside the house because it keeps my face looking soft and smooth, not greasy. Below I will list links to some shine control powders that I recommend starting from the cheapest to the most expensive(all of them work the same and are effective, it's just the name brand that distinguishes their prices).
I'm not in any way shape or form attempting/trying to bash anyone that wears foundation or wears it on a daily basis. To be honest, you shouldn't wear it everyday because you don't want to clog your pores and your skin needs to breathe. I'm simply sharing an alternative to foundation that still gives your beautiful face great coverage. Personally, I stray away from using foundation because I developed fine lines around my mouth(#smilelines)and when I would cover my face with any type of foundation it would seep into my lines and then crease whenever I smiled; thus making me very self conscious. Some people have presumed that I'm a diva or vain because I would constantly check my face in my compact mirror when really I was trying to tame the crease lines!!! Now, I haven't abandoned makeup altogether. I use concealer and some press powder under my eyes to give myself a fresh look hiding my raccoon eyes then I apply my 'Neutrogena Shine Control Powder' to seal the deal dissolving the oil from my clean face. Another benefit of going 'foundation free' is that I don't have to worry about strategically embracing people so that I won't get any makeup on their clothing. You can't fathom how embarrassing it can be nor how many times that has happened to me!
All-in-all, I wasn't trying to convince anyone to stop wearing foundation, but I just wanted to share my aesthetic in switching from liquid/powder products to a cleaner alternative that compliments my face and gives me the freedom to smile and embrace others. Shine control powder is great for when you're running errands and don't feel like doing up your face or a beach day/hot summer day when you don't want to waste your time doing your makeup just so it can melt off! And, it's not just a 'woman-thing' either! Shine control products benefit men when they are taking professional pictures, modeling, or acting for film/television.
I once watched a documentary about JFK when he did a debate with Nixon. JFK's approval rating was higher than his opponent Nixon who refused to wear any makeup that would tame his oily skin that got more attention on camera than he did(#justsayin)!
