Monday Mashup

Get ready for this 3-part post as I bounce from topic, to topic, to topic! I couldn't decide which to write about so I decided that 3 is better than one. From anticipating what lies ahead to sharing my favorite AESTHETIC posts thus far, and concluding with new music on my radar; I hope that there are some things that you can take away from this post to add to your #aesthetic.

Year In Review:

There's just a little over a month left of the Summer season and 2019 is just on the horizon. Time waits for no one and the older I get, the more it seems that time is going faster. When I go to bed at night it feels like I just woke up an hour ago and not hours ago! I believe that at this moment, as July comes to a close, that it is healthy for all of us to look back at what we've experienced this year thus far (as well as what we've endured in our lives in general). Anything is possible and especially so with GOD in your corner. No one knows for sure what will happen next and this can be either terrifying or intriguing. My hope is that you'll take the time to reflect and pray. It's never too late and you're never too old. The only limitation that you have is the willingness of your mind to apply yourself. You are what you eat and you become what you think of yourself. For me, personally, I'm intrigued to see how the rest of this year will unfold for me (by the Grace of GOD). I don't believe in chance, but trust in GOD. He has brought me a long way and this blog is a testament to that! AESTHETIC is more than what I had originally planned and to see how it has evolved from its conception just eight months ago amazes me. I'm excited to watch it grow and to gain traction. My hope is that it becomes a resource and an inspiration. There are a lot of blogs, bloggers, etc. I just pray that AESTHETIC: The Art of Me will leave its mark of distinction. Regardless of what you have experienced so far in 2018 (either good or bad) be motivated to finish with strength, determination, and expectation. Faith is powerful and prayer with faith is radical. Remember this nugget: just when you think nothing will happen or it seems hopeless...that's when the unexpected catches you by surprise. The other shoe will drop my friends. Wait for it! Put your trust in GOD and He will turn your situation around and when He does...it will amaze you.

Summer Style 2018(June 7)

This post gives the rundown of the top trends for Summer this year and is a great guide to help you plan your outfit for any Summer event. I like the variety that it offers and that it is thorough in informing what's "in" without being overwhelming. There's something on the list for every style and taste. Some of the trends also work for both women and men!

Me, Myself, & I: The Perks of Being Alone(Dec 26)

It seems in this day and age of "Social Media" that everyone wants a piece of you regardless of whether or not your famous. Humans are curious at heart and especially in this generation with the extent of media being in our faces constantly! It seems that it's hard to keep some things to yourself. This post encourages you to take a moment to unplug from it all. Spend some time alone (with GOD) to stay true to yourself and to hold on to who you are without getting lost in the constant steady stream of "popular opinion".

Keep Going: Getting Up When You've Fallen Short.(Feb 12)

I wrote this post to encourage (Christian) readers to not count themselves out when they sin. GOD is merciful and I have found myself re-reading the words I have written to encourage myself when I have felt defeated after "messing up". His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23, KJV) and every time we sincerely repent from our hearts. Don't believe the lies of satan. Know that GOD is for you and that JESUS is present to see you through whatever stronghold your struggling with. Surrender to Him...don't run away from Him. He'll help you overcome!

Aesthetic Playlist:

This is the music that I have discovered recently that I can't get enough of! Music has the ability to inspire and motivate the listener. When it comes to they type of music I listen to, the main factor that I go by is the words. What is being sung and does it resonate with me? It's like I'm continually looking for songs that would be another track on the "soundtrack of my life"! Everyone has their own theme song or anthem and I happen to have more than just one that gets me hype. Take a moment to check out these artists and their musical #aesthetic.

Oh Wonder

I first came across this British Alternative Pop-esque group while chilling at a Starbucks in Park Slope, Brooklyn about three years back. One song led to another which led to me purchasing their entire debut album and playing it on repeat (especially the one I have mentioned as my fav)! Their follow-up album is just as lit and their music overall is down-right cool! It's music that I like to have playing when I'm writing because it's upbeat and vibrant like a hipster vintage clothing store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I like to think of it as "Millennial Music".

Favorite Song- "The Rain"

Chris Stapleton

If I remember correctly, I became acquainted with this talented country/soul-singer when I was listening to music on YouTube and it was a recommended video. His talent is outstanding and his voice hits the soul in such a rare way. Some can sing, but let's just say that Mr. Stapleton can #sang! He croons music for romantic lovers and relationships that are on the rocks; providing a little something for everyone as his voice sets the tone for a mellow atmosphere.

Favorite Song- "Without Your Love"

Joseph

I was helping my mom with some Spring cleaning a couple of months back and she was playing music on her phone. She works in retail and they play music in the store. This is one way of how she comes into contact with new songs. So when I heard "SOS (Overboard)" playing from her phone while helping her tidy up her room, I was hooked. I couldn't get the song out of my head and just days ago I finally listened to the song again. Like I mentioned prior, I'm all about the words. The reason why I'm drawn to the song is personal, but it reminds me of someone I know and it's also just a really catch tune. My favorite line is "(...)did it to myself, now I need your help(...)". Not a lot of people are willing to admit that they're wrong and that they need help at the same time. It speaks of wanting forgiveness because the mistake that they made is basically causing their ship to sink. I also have to mention that "Joseph" is an edgy name for an all female group who have equally edgy voices that are an interesting mixture of whimsical, folk-pop, and chilling (especially my second fav song by them "Sweet Dreams")!
