These are the 5 films that have inspired me as a #fashionista! Movies have the power to influence and inspire an entire generation (and generations to come). One of the cool facets of fashion is that certain silhouettes are actually timeless staples that will never go out of style. Film and fashion (and music) go hand-in-hand in shaping culture. There are movies from the 60s that capture my attention (i.e. anything Hitchcock) and I'm a millennial 90s baby!
With that being said, my list consists of films that I have seen and that have inspired my sense of fashion over the years. I also highlight a couple of "Honorable Mentions". One of which I haven't seen...yet, but it so iconic that everyone is familiar with some aspect of it.
*This is also a great guide to go by if you are stuck in a rut when it comes to updating your fashion #aesthetic! Rent the films and get captivated by the chic costumes that steal the show.*
*This list is in no particular order of importance*
5. "PRETTY IN PINK", 1986
This is the film to watch when you need a crash course in "80s fashion". The film covers a variety of fashion styles from the "yuppie" trend that consists of preppy styles for young professionals, to edgy silhouettes that are punk-rock-esque, and then there's the in between that consists of layering clothing and jewelry. My favorite part of this film, is the music, especially the club scenes that set the tone for Andie's style and the scene that she frequents.

4. "THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA", 2006
This is the high-fashion movie that takes the cake! As a screenwriter, I'm a huge fan of "montages". The montages of Andy, showcasing her new found fashion sense as she makes her way to work, are tres tres chic! Watching this film is like viewing a virtual look book on what to wear and how to wear it.

3. "SWEET HOME ALABAMA", 2002
This movie is all about embracing where you come from and not suppressing the truth of who you are. But, Reese's character is a fashion designer on the rise, showcasing her fashion designs in runway and backstage scenes; causing fashion fans to forget the story line and take note on the styles that steal the show! The tone of the fashion film favorite is that of "early 2000s minimalist-chic". This fashion notion consists of structured yet basic silhouettes that are chic and effortless; making them practically timeless. I also like how Reese's character finds her own style at the end of the film. She transitioned from "bad in black" New York sleek, to Southern laid-back chic, then finally establishing a genuine blend of the two that reveals her true essence.

2. "CLUELESS", 1995
90s babies, who were too young to wear the styles when they originated, have been rejoicing at the ever trending #90srevival that has triumphed the fashion forecast! We are now able to rock these iconic throwbacks with a 21st century flare and we have films such as "Clueless" to toast to; showcasing the silhouettes that defined a decade. I think it's safe to say that everyone's favorite part of the film is Cher's closet!

1. "UNDER THE CHERRY MOON", 1986
This Prince production is a childhood favorite of mine. Set in Paris, France, the movie is all about being young, getting rich, and that love is the greatest luxury of all. This was also Kristin Scott Thomas' film debut! Her 80s Parisian-costumes owned every scene just like her acting technique.

Honorable Mentions
"BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S", 1961
Audrey Hepburn...need I say more? If you haven't seen the movie, I'm sure you have seen this image at least once in your life somewhere (i.e. clothing store, nail salon, etc.)

"SOME LIKE IT HOT", 1959
*I have seen this film, multiple times, and I also own it on DVD. Marilyn's dresses during the performance sequences rival those seen on the red carpet today!*

"SPICE WORLD", 1998
They were my role models when I was 7 years old! I'm still inspired by their "girl power" sass and funky style to this day. I use to wish that I was my age now in the 90s just so I could dress like them. The Spice Girls, indeed, have spiced up my life and my fashion sense!
