Nailed It! Trends of 2018

Updated: Jan 16, 2018

I hope everyone had a legit weekend! Depending on where you're located, you may have had a "snow storm" threat like us in the Mid-Atlantic. My mom and I went to visit my grandmother for her 87th birthday and we thought that after Friday we would be snowed-in until even Monday morning (because as we all know the "news" likes to hype everything up to another level#extra...). I say all of this because when we got up Saturday morning, it was "business as usual"! And my mom and I were ecstatic because we desperately needed fills.

Which has inspired me to cover in today's Post: "Nail Trends of 2018". What colors, designs, methods, are trending? Well, look no further, cause I'm about to serve it to you straight!

It seems that this year anything goes concerning nails (just like fashion)! The funkier the better (if you're into pressing the envelope). Such styles include animal prints and chunky gems. An #instafav for all the minimalist out there (including myself) is the simplistic single line on one finger of your choice as seen at the 3.1 Phillip Lim fashion show as well as backstage at Kate Spade. While Club Monaco traced the rim of their models' cuticles with the simple line design also. Bright colors are a constant must every spring/summer season. But my favorite thus far is the 3-colors combo of painting one finger one color and another finger a different color as well as another finger different from the other two creating your own pattern. I may try that out the next time I get my nails did!

Length is fair game also. From your own natural nails to acrylic or a more natural/organic method; the choice is yours! In my opinion it seems that longer lengths are in because it provides more space to go bold with designs such as gems as well as "logo nails". And for that matter, I continue to see square shaped long nails without ceasing.

(to see how I'm rocking my nails right now) Black and glitter combos have appeared on runways for this year's fashion forecast. The two colors together are sleek with a touch of glamour. And personally, I feel that my nail color choice is edgy, chic, yet simple (appealing to the minimalist that I am)!

Another popular style is anything chrome, shimmery, metallic, and shiny. These shades work for any season and go with just about everything in anyone's closet. You can paint all your nails the same or try the color-combo trend and mix it up a bit. All-in-all the choice is yours.

Final insight: French manicures have been kicked to the curb and ruled as passe circa 1990. But, die-hard fans, keep hope alive because the vintage (and in my opinion "iconic" style) has been upgraded to 2018 standards! Simply flip the script by having your manicurist (or yourself) place the french tip design at the bottom of your cuticle instead of the top or you can do half white half black tips creating a color-block effect.

Here is a link to a throwback from Fall 2013 that may inspire you as well: vintage Marchesa.
