Take a walk with me through this post as I break down the essential shoes every woman must have within her possession!
Today is the official start of winter and depending on where you live you may still be able to get away with a couple of the styles I'm going to share. But nonetheless the shoes on my list will help define your wardrobe (for any season) while being basic enough for even the chicest minimalist.
1. BOOTS:
Black, brown, cognac, red, printed, flat, or with a heel; boots are always "in" regardless of the season. I used to be obsessed with wearing shorts and boots in the spring/summer when I was in my late teens! And pairing boots with a blouse and jeans or just a basic tee still gives an effortlessly chill yet chic flare to your outfit. There are these two pair of boots that I own from my selection of shoes that are very funky: the one pair are over the knee leopard flats that I like to wear with a plain black blouse (pairing it with my black wide brim hat from Forever 21 or black knit beanie from Express, void of any jewelry) because I don't want to take any attention away from the boots and I own a flowery printed pair that I like to call my "Prince boots" because I'm sure the late iconic musician would've approved (wearing them himself). Vera Wang is a great designer in boots and her "Simply Vera by Vera Wang" collection is a favorite of mine that is exclusively available at Kohl's:

2. FLATS:
As I have gotten older, I have begun to take refuge in cute flats. I never thought that I would find such pleasure in owning a couple of comfy ballerina flats, but after wearing heels ALL OF THE TIME in my late teens-early twenties, I thought it would be wise to preserve my feet while I'm still young! My favorite pair of flats as I mentioned already are ballerina flats that were purchased from New York & Company. I own the same style in pink and black and I feel like a legit ballerina whenever I slip them on to my feet; they're light as air! I'm not too keen on the flats that are scrunchy in the back and they curl up when you take them off. In times past they've dug into the back of my heel and it's too much drama if you have to do the "band aid method" placing one on the back of your heel to protect yourself from getting a blister. But when you find your perfect flat they are simple and comfortable yet girly so you still feel feminine (and not overly sexy like you're trying too hard).
3. HEELS:
But while I mention them, heels, are shoes that are to be worn at the right time and not all of the time. I know that there are women out there who only wear heels and won't give them up for nothing! I mean, they're on my list, they are an essential shoe but like I stated wisdom must be used for when you wear them. For a fancy occasion or night out on the town, heels get the job done in adding three-five inches to your stature and they are sexy shoes that add a layer of attractiveness to the right outfit. Now as a former avid stiletto wearer, I don't suggest you walk around in them and especially not in the city on the hard concrete sidewalks because you'll wear out your heels and the sole sooner than later while torturing your poor little piggies and for what? To look fierce? Please, it's not worth it, you want to be able to still walk years from now and not have to wear orthopedic shoes!
My recommendation is to go for a wedge that will give you height and comfort. Personally, I find it much easier to be on my feet all night in a pair of cute peep-toe wedges or chunky heels than stilettos. You want to look good and feel good. Hurting feet totally ruin your night out which you should want to avoid.
4. SNEAKERS:
This particular style of shoe has become the go-to for just about any outfit you're wearing. Sneakers have always been popular since their conception, but as of the past year they have been trending on steroids as women have been pairing their favorite pair of sneakers with skirts and dresses. Now you just can't pair your clothes with some old gym sneakers! I recommend a fresh pair of Adidas' and an accordion skirt, high waisted jeans, or some Nike kicks with a LBD and cardigan. Checkout my Instagram later on today where I will be sharing a pic of my favorite sneakers that I own that were a B-day gift from my mum. She got me the shoes from a shoe store in Union Square in NYC and every time I wear them they get attention (as they should) because they literally look like they're not from this world (like sneakers made on Jupiter for the year 2050)!
