Green smoothies and vitamin E oil are a few of my favorite things; thus I'm doubling-down on this Thursday Post giving you the goods on these...well, goodies!
First things first: SMOOTHIES
This trendy substitute has become mainstream over the past couple of years and is a tasty yet healthy option if your watching your weight, want to loose weight, fasting, or implementing an alternate food option into your diet. The combinations are endless to what can make a legit smoothie; from adding protein powder to matcha and etc.
I've made my own smoothies before (oatmeal smoothies are a great breakfast option and you can prep it over night then leave it in the fridge if you have a busy/early morning), but when I'm in Manhattan, my favorite spot is Juice Vitality at 1st Ave and 12th St. I recommend their "Avocado Smoothie" as a go-to green smoothie especially if it's your first go-round! Soy milk, avocados, and kale are just some of the ingredients in this delicious drink and when I was walking down 1st Ave and 9th St with my large green smoothie; it was getting looks as people were asking me what I was drinking and where did I get it.
Another place is Panera Bread, they would be my second option and they are a chain so wherever you are one should be near you.
Green smoothies are my favorite especially Kale smoothies because of the benefits of Kale (one of which includes hair growth) and they just seem healthier because they're green! I have to be in the mood for a fruit smoothie, but they're just as nutritious and delicious. I will note that for first time smoothie tasters, your taste buds will need to adjust to the Kale/green smoothies. At first, for me, it seemed bitter, but after my second one I joined the team!
Now, like I mentioned in a prior post, if you just so happen to find yourself in Pittsburgh in 2018 (or sooner) then a great place to stop for a smoothie is Hello Bistro located at the corner of Forbes Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh. They have a whole side of their restaurant designated for smoothies AND "hand-dipped" milkshakes with a vast selection to choose from as well as fresh meal options for you to enjoy for lunch such as their "Apple Bacon Cheddar Grilled Cheese Sandwich". And on the same block is the health food restaurant, Delicious Raw Pittsburgh, serving up smoothies and juices.
To be perfectly blunt, I don't care for juices, I like the thickness of smoothies, and they're much more filling.
All-in-all, smoothies, are a great way to get your vitamins in because everything you choose to put into your smoothie is a healthy option that contains essential vitamins such as kale and spinach that provide vitamins A and K.
Below are a couple of links on more reasons why you should start (or continue) to get your smoothie-on!
*Helpful Tips:
Don't be meek on the ice, the more the better for added thickness!
Avoid Starbucks' smoothies, trust me on this one, they're the black sheep of smoothies#sucks!
And Speaking of vitamins...
VITAMIN E: So, I just started using vitamin E oil for the past week or so and I am willing to bet that it is better (definitely cheaper) than ProActive. I have been using ProActive for two years and it has dramatically cleared up my face from the dark marks (from prior pimples) that once plagued it. But, vitamin E oil, is reducing the appearance of the fine lines I have acquired as I transition from early twenties to mid twenties; as well as lightening dark marks while evening out my skin tone. Earlier this year, I was at a Duane Reade in the East Village with a friend of mine, as she was shopping for vitamin E oil (upon the recommendation of her sister in preparation for her wedding).
At the time I was just officially beginning to go makeup free(not completely but minus foundation) and my friend was sharing with me the hype on the miracle treatment. I didn't think much of it at the time until I tried it myself. I have also used it to condition my scalp and it left my hair smelling decadent!
According to the product I'm using (Marshalls/$5.99/4 fl oz) by Measurable Difference they have labeled their product as an "instant face & body moisturizer". They note on the back of the bottle that vitamin E in general replenishes hydration, decreases the appearance of wrinkles, and continued use helps to improve skin elasticity.
I apply it only at night because it is an oil-based product and applying it at night gives your face time to absorb the oil into your pores so it can get to work in restoring your skin. I have also noticed that it gives my face a radiant glow and it is a must-have staple for all my natural/makeup free(clean-faced) sisters out there!
