Memorial Day has passed and the official start of Summer is June 21st! With that being said I have broken down the top trends for the upcoming season; getting you excited to organize your closet and plan your outfits. This list will be an amalgamation of what's trending on the "fashion forecast" for Summer as well as items that I recommend and have my eye on at the moment. The beauty of fashion is that it gives the wearer freedom to express who they are through clothing. This list is solely for your recommendation. Not every trend works for everybody and only you know what compliments your shape, skin, and overall your personality. These trends are as wide and as varying as the human race with different ethnicities, sizes, and tastes. But I'm sure there is something on this list for everyone to be into thus inspiring your #summerwardrobe.
As always, I will leave links below for your consideration. Be sure to share this with friends/family and subscribe (if you haven't already) to stay-in-the-know with the best diy, fashion, and lifestyle tips that can be implemented into your personal #aesthetic!
(Disclaimer: the following list is not in any particular order of importance and items with * indicate my recommendation for both women & men)
14. Seashell Jewelry:
Big in the 90s, this trend is making a comeback! These pieces are fun and youthful adding that touch of Summer to your wardrobe. I use to have a seashell necklace back in the day and I even found a seashell that fit on my finger (like an actual ring) while at the beach one time. Whether you make it or buy it, this jewelry will be a nice compliment to your outfit.
I recommend in moderation. Less is more!
13. Camouflage*:
I recently got a couple of items in this pattern including an over-sized bag and cropped pants both from New York & Co. Camo is one of those trends that always remains relevant regardless of the current fashion climate. I wouldn't wear it all at once because that can be overwhelming on the eyes, but tastefully wearing camo pants with a solid top/blouse or a camo jacket over a fitted dress will seal the deal!
12. Bandanas*:
When you're having a bad hair day or you just want t add some style to your look, bandanas, are the solution. I use to ties these around my hair and got constant compliments on the style trick. You can wear your hair up in a bun or ponytail tying the bandana around your head or if your hair is short you can do the same! Another way of rocking this scarf is tying it around your neck in lieu of wearing a necklace. This latter trend became very popular in 2016/2017 and is still relevant for now.
11. Shades of White*:
Every Fashionista knows that between Memorial Day and Labor Day is your window to wear that white the right way. From blouses to jeans or light summer dresses; whiting up your wardrobe now and again will help keep you cool during those hot Summer days. Even though white clothing attracts dirt more than other colors; having a few pieces is well worth it in an effort to minimize sweat (enabling you to look good and stay chill).
10. Mini Skirts:
This is a piece that depends upon your level of comfort. I use to rock mini skirts in my late teens-early twenties, but not too much now as I'm not drawn to wearing them because my taste has developed. My style is youthful, yet mature, while being edgy and funky! But skirts are still a constant that I like to keep in my closet. Mini skirts are another 90s trend resurrected from the past making a comeback.
9. Bell Bottoms:
These jeans are one of my favorites for Summer (and any season)! I can't wait to finally find an affordable pair that will fit me right. Bell bottoms compliment women with curves and I like the dramatic flare at the bottom especially when paired with wedge/platform heels.
8. Chunky Sandals:
Flip flops, wedges, heels: the thicker the better! I recommend checking out the thick wedged flip flops that have been trending recently. These are yet another 90s trend that have resurfaced and they work great for more casual outfits like jeans and a nice blouse or summer dress while running errands or having coffee with a friend. Cute and comfort are key for perfect Summer style.
7. Unique Denim*:
Denim tops, denim jackets, denim hats, denim shoes: take this fabric to a whole new level! The great thing about denim is that you can go all out with it; wearing it all at once from head to toe making for a chic-casual look that grabs everyone's attention without being overwhelming.
Try 2 trends in 1: A denim romper is great for when you need to run errands, but want to look effortlessly chic at the same time!
6. Rompers:
Another trend that never goes out of style; rompers are the easy go-to outfits that compliment your figure without putting too much thought into it! Long pants or shorts you can "have-at-it" when it comes to colors and patterns.
I love being able to just slip a romper on and go about my business. Summer is the best season for rompers because everyone's main aim is to wear light clothing that is still stylish and attractive, thus "la romper"!
5. Velvet:
Soft, cozy, and comfortable. Enough said! I have heels, a dress, pants, and something else I can't remember off the top of my head! But velvet is another favorite of mine that is a must-have in my closet.
4. Floral Prints:
Flower power is always essential when it comes to Spring/Summer style. Whether it be accessories for your hair, dresses, blouses, or flower-inspired jewelry; floral prints are the season's go-to (especially if you're desperate for something to wear for an event and need a last minute outfit). Flowers won't let you down. Just don't over do it. I recommend floral accessories with a solid outfit or a floral print dress (or blouse/ or pants) with solid jewelry like silver or gold.
3. Tiny Sunglasses*:
These make me think of "The Matrix" as these trending shades are ultra sleek and chic. I purchased mine from Urban Outfitters for $20 in store and they have exclusive online deals available on their website with a vast variety of colors for you to choose from:

2. Polka Dots:
I like this pattern and it's my favorite because it reminds me of my mom! She wore this in the 90s (and still does today) and it gives me nostalgic vibes from the decade of my childhood. I feel like I'm tapping into that time from the past whenever I wear the iconic print. This is another universal fashion piece that makes everyone look good regardless of your shape, height, or skin tone. I have wide-leg pants and a crop top blouse in this pattern amongst other items. I'm playing with the idea of wearing a few of my polka dotted items together. The number 1 fashion tip to remember is to never be afraid to try something out! Fashion is bold, daring, abstract, obscure, beautiful, and original (just like you).
1. Pastels*:
Light colors are a must as I have mentioned before when it comes to staying cool for the Summer. Pastels also compliment just about everyone's skin tone and it doesn't have to stop with clothing. Pastel lipsticks and eye shadows are also a must-have when putting together your Summer look.
I've seen fashionistas wear one solid pastel color from head to head; matching their coat with their top and pants down to their shoes and handbag (and I absolutely loved it). Mix and match or head-to-toe; do whatever works for you!

BONUS STYLE TRENDS:
Over-sized Fashion Glasses*- for a smart, sophisticated, yet playful look.
I got my frames last Summer. You can check online to see if they have something similar still available: https://www.rue21.com/store/usearch?Ntt=glasses&cat=results
Glitter Perfume/Shimmer Lotion- I am using "Happy Vibes" by Bath & Body Works. I get constant compliments on its fruity-citrus scent that evokes its names-sake perfect for the upcoming season. I was looking for some shimmer/glitter lotion because I like how it makes my skin look when the light catches it. This was another 90s favorite that was popular amongst kids, preteens, teens, and young adults because it signals youthfulness. Personally it makes me feel playful (like the "Life of the Party")! You can wear it everyday, during a beach outing, or at a Summer event!
