I’ve been a social media ghost for the past two weeks, but I took an impromptu (and necessary) break. It seems like week after week there’s more unsettling drama unfolding within our country. 2020 hasn’t been all that we would’ve hoped it to be. I’m still holding on to the hope that the rest of the year can make some kind of a #comeback (if you will). But who knows? It’s all (and always in) GOD’S hands.
Let’s see: we’ve been opening up states that were on lockdown due to the pandemic and with that has come what some have called a “second wave” in new confirmed cases of the novel Covid-19. Then there’s the outcry that continues to resound concerning police brutality and the deaths of Black Americans in this country. It seems that some officers can’t resist as one by one another Black American is killed by their hands. I’m glad that we’re starting to see things change when it comes to holding officers accountable for their misconduct and mishandling. Yet, it shouldn’t have to take video footage of a police officer having his knee on a Black Man’s neck (#GeorgeFloyd) for this long overdue change to come. Then you have the country’s president who acts as if he doesn’t give a damn about what’s going on except his own re-election. And on top of all of this chaos, we all have our own personal-daily obstacles to deal with. For the past three months, we have lived with uncertainty. What will happen next?
I remember talking to a co-worker; both of us hoping that the Coronavirus would go away or that it wasn’t as big of a deal. I can recall thinking that it was in China and Europe, but grateful that it didn’t reach the States. And then New York State got hit with it and before I knew it (before we all knew it), our lives were flipped upside down. People continue to talk about “going back to normal”. We’ve crossed over...into the “Twilight Zone” that is “The Covid-Era”. Business are redesigning offices so that employees have more physical distance between them; returning to cubicle-style desk spaces in lieu of the recent popular open space setting. Some places are encouraging their staff to work more remotely. And as a whole, it seems that more people are becoming aware of the lack of racial equality that exists around them. It literally feels like we’re living in the middle of a History Channel episode.
Personally, everything has been so overwhelming that I didn’t have the drive to post as much as I usually do. I felt like I needed that time to myself to process everything; focusing on my own personal responsibilities and goals. As an #artist, I tend to grow concerned about how I will be able to gain opportunities to showcase my work. The Entertainment Industry is based upon the collaboration of large groups of people that work together to bring a production to life. How will movies be made and plays be performed during the “Covid-Era”? On top of that, I’m working part-time (at a local shelter); covering shifts. I try to only go out when needed such as getting groceries and doing laundry. I was able to finally go to the nail salon to get my nails did and I’m very grateful for that! Yet, with new cases of the virus creating hotspots in some states; I’m concerned that we may revert back to lockdown mode.
Nevertheless, in the upcoming weeks, I hope to provide new content and to stay connected with you! I also hope that you’ve taken the time to focus on yourself and your loved ones during these crazy times. I myself am trying to think of creative ways to make the most of every moment. When it comes to traveling, it may be a little tricky. Some states such as New York are thinking about asking visitors to quarantine for two weeks or to get tested before visiting. Even flying on a plane is risky business and its highly encouraged that travelers consider whether or not flying is that important at a time like this.
With all of that being said, be on the lookout for new posts and videos. I feel like at a time like this, my brand is getting reinvented and reimagined. I want to be more open and personal as well as relevant; sharing my opinion on current topics. I hope that it will inspire you (and elevate your #aesthetic)!
So until next time,
