Lately I have been pondering skincare and age. I have noticed that many of the mature (i.e. older) adults in my life have clear skin free of blemishes; as I battle dark spots in my late twenties. I wanted to know if there was a connection between getting older and gaining clearer skin. It seems as if the skin bounces back from an awkward phase of dark spots, pimples, acne; as in the days of our youth (when we were children) having no concerns of blemishes on our faces. I did a little digging and here are a few facts that I came across. Below I also share some more links to past AESTHETIC Posts on how you can age gracefully and show your skin some love naturally!
BEAUTY SLEEP IS REAL:
According to Women's Health, "beauty sleep" isn't a joke anymore! They share on their site that "Chronic sleep loss can lead to fine lines, dark circles, and even make your skin age faster. Sleep loss can make you release more of the stress hormone called cortisol which breaks down collagen or result in too little of the growth hormone which helps repair your body." Go to bed at a decent hour regularly to maintain healthy skin and an overall healthy body.

WATER IS KING:
1MD identifies water as the king of hydrating liquids. In their article on ways for older adults to protect their skin; they share that "Water renders several benefits for one's skin, some of which are reducing wrinkles, flushing out toxins, moisturizing the skin's surface, and more — which are all vital to enhancing the health of a senior's skin."

MOISTURIZING IS KEY:
Moisturizing your skin minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Everydayhealth.com highlights that "The simple act of switching your normal face cream for a richer one will help trap water against the skin, pumping up those deep crevices. As an added bonus, smooth the formula down to your neck and upper torso to treat those areas as well."

These are just a few things you can do to treat your skin; reaping the benefits later on as you grow older and mature. Other wellness professionals recommend using the proper SPF for your skin; outdoors and indoors. Also, revise your diet by eating healthier foods to further maintain clear skin.
