Our lives are overwhelming right now. It seems like we’re continually facing the #unknown. There’s the social climate of our culture and the world. Then individually, we all have our own personal daily obstacles to deal with. That’s why it’s SO important that each of us cultivate our own #selfcare routine.
Your unique #selfcare routine can consist of a few simple ways that help you to relax and unwind from the things that give you stress.
I’m not an expert, but from my personal experience, I know that when I have time to myself that I gain a sense of peace. I enjoy hosting and being around people, but I also equally enjoy my privacy. When I’m alone, I can self-evaluate my own thoughts, opinions, and perspective. I can think independently for myself and be true to who I am. I have the ability to pursue things that I’m interested in and grow as a person.
Right now, due to my full-time work schedule, I take the time to practice #selfcare before going to work or after and especially on my days off. I set daily goals that I like to achieve concerning my interests. Each week I take the time to cultivate these skills that I identify with. When I play my guitar, I feel like it helps me to relieve stress and to relax. I’m focusing on discovering new sounds and creating new songs when I finger-pick.
Below, I outline 3 simple ways that you can start your personal routine of #selfcare; elevating your #aesthetic!
1. Timing IS Everything:
Like I mentioned prior, I schedule time to practice #selfcare during my free time such as my days off from work. When I’m off that is when I’m able to focus on my interests, goals, and my overall art. Depending on where you’re at in life and what you have going on from day-to-day; make a plan to carve out time that is just for you! This is the first step to practicing #selfcare; make time for yourself. If you’re always available for someone else and not yourself, you will drain yourself sooner or later. We all need to find a balance of being there for others and for ourselves. The time that you spend alone practicing #selfcare will enable you to recharge and regenerate; giving you the stamina to be there for someone else. You’ll be able to strengthen them in their time of need because you yourself had the ability to focus on your needs.
2. Brainstorm:
Once you make time for yourself; brainstorm about what it is you’re actually interested in. The term #selfcare consists of a wide array of things. #Selfcare isn't just sipping a glass of red wine with a face mask on. I believe #selfcare is all about doing what makes you feel relaxed and at ease. The main idea in mind is focusing on you! #Selfcare is taking the time to do what makes you feel at peace and stress-free. You don’t need to create an overwhelming list, but I would suggest that you pick 3-5 things that interest you. This list can range from learning a new language to getting a full body massage once a month to journaling more. Pick things that pique your interest and that will enable you to feel more in tune and connected to yourself. This is your precious time to use at your leisure.
3. Maximize The Moment:
The most important part about #selfcare is that you are enjoying every moment of what it is that you are doing for yourself. Practicing #selfcare isn’t selfish, but necessary. We constantly witness people get bent out of shape and burnt out. These people I’m talking about are denying themselves the opportunity to relax and recharge. We can become so consumed with our responsibilities and other obstacles that generate stress that we lose sight of who we are as a person. You should know who you are as a person and as an individual regardless of your job title or status in life. When you actively practice #selfcare, you become more aware of yourself, your interests, and your identity. Taking the time to be alone with yourself, your thoughts, and your interests gives you the opportunity to take a break from the stress of everyday life. It’s your private time to enjoy those things that put a smile on your face in the midst of chaotic times.
We are now seeing specialists across the board highlight how important the need to practice #selfcare is and especially during this time that we are living in. Even fashion designers are rolling out styles that are chic yet comfortable in an effort to endorse that sense of cozy-relaxed leisure. I believe that practicing #selfcare will allow you to continue to be grateful for what you do have and to hope for better days ahead!
