Millennial Budget Guide

Sometimes, you have to prioritize in order to enjoy the things you truly want the most. Penny-pinching or being on a budget doesn’t mean that you have to forgo the pleasures that you enjoy. Simply tweaking your spending habits in order to preserve some extra dough will pay off; enabling you to invest in what matters the most (if that be a new car, a vacation, or making payments on your student loan). So with that being said, let’s discover 7 different ways that we can spend wisely (while saving money) through this “AESTHETIC Millennial Budget Guide”!

{This list is in no particular order of importance and content mentioned is not sponsored}

1. DOLLAR TREE DEALS

That’s right, don’t sleep on Dollar Tree! Everything is literally $1 and they provide a plethora of staples that suit your daily needs. The store has upped their game in recent years by providing name brand products such as Crest and e.l.f!

These products are $5-$6 at other stores; making it a travesty to spend so much.

2. VINTAGE FINDS

Secondhand boutiques have taken their apparel to the next level by supplying designer labels for a fraction of the cost. A lot of these products are in great condition; enabling you to have your cake and eat it too! You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on a new bag or dress every month when you can discover unique designer finds that are one of a kind. Here in the Pittsburgh area there are several vintage stores where you can sell and buy merchandise:

3. SKIP THE GYM

You don’t have to pay $$ a month in order to stay fit and look good! I haven’t been to a gym in years since I have curated my own personal workout playlist; consisting of my favorite “Fitness YouTubers” who provide relevant videos. I exercise 4-5 times a week for 15-45 minutes. Thanks to these free and convenient videos, I’m able to workout from the comforts of home while saving money and time. I prefer cardio, kickboxing, and pilates exercises that help to keep my body toned and in shape. I highly recommend checking out these YouTubers to help get you started!

4. DIYS

I’m all about doing-it-yourself! There’s a level of gratification when you see the finished result of a project and know that you’re the one that made it happen. Just think about how much money you’ll save when you decide to do your nails yourself. An acrylic set can cost anywhere between $40-$60. The price for doing your own nails by simply purchasing a pack of press on nails, nail glue, and nail polish is a mere $7!

5. EAT OUT LESS

Take the time to strategize when it comes to grocery shopping. I understand that the demands of life can become overwhelming; leaving you with no time to shop and prepare meals on the regular. But for the preservation of your health and well-being; it’s crucial. Make a list of what dishes you are able to cook then purchase the staples that you need to prepare. You can have leftovers the following night or take it for lunch while you’re at work. It can seem convenient to eat out all of the time, but it’s actually detrimental to your body and your wallet. Everyday there’s a new article, blog post, or video about what fast food restaurants are putting into their food (or lack there of). You have the ability to cook with fresh foods from your local farmers market or grocery store; ensuring that your body gets the nutrients it needs; while also saving money in the process!

6. SET IT ASIDE

Try setting a percentage of your paycheck aside to save money for when you need it the most. It can be as little as 5% of your check, but overtime it will add up and come in handy on a “rainy day”. You can also use this as vacation money that you can spend while having fun; either way it’s always a great idea to practice healthy financial habits that you will benefit from in the long run.

7. BE YOUR OWN BARISTA

I’m an avid coffeehouse patron! I think cafes and coffeehouses add flavor to the community. They’re gathering places for business professionals and artists alike. Yet, stopping by your local cafe everyday can start to burn a whole through your wallet. Depending upon your preference; a cup of joe can be from $2-$6. That’s $10-$30 a week (if you go on weekdays). There are more frugal ways that you can enjoy your morning cup or coffee break without wasting your hard earned cash in the process. You don’t have to invest in purchasing a fancy cappuccino or coffee machine, but rather try your hand at using a convenient and easy French Press. There’s also the option of purchasing instant coffee sticks that simply demand that you pour the contents into a cup with boiling hot water; adding creamer or sugar to your liking. Instant coffee sticks cost $1-$3 (depending upon the retailer and also available at Dollar Tree).
