#MondayMotivation

As I’ve mentioned in my #updates video on my #YouTube channel: Mariah Franklin aka Child; I’ve been working on different things such as going back to school to get my Bachelors Degree in Business, starting a new job, and moving. Mind you, that’s all on top of creating beats, working on my music, auditioning for TV and Film roles as an actress, editing and pitching my screenplays, and managing my blog and YouTube channel.

As I’ve been juggling all of these things at once, it has led me to create an updated professional resume. As a local #Pittsburgh #artist and #native, I’ve been applying for artist grants that will help support my craft. One of the things I had to do during the application process was provide a CV professional resume.

Revamping my professional resume has #inspired me to share it with you in hopes that it will #elevate your own personal #aesthetic. When I finished my new resume, it gave me a renewed sense of self! I was able to see clearly on paper everything that I had been working on from my Senior year of high school to this very day. I’ve had times where I thought that I wasn’t enough or wasn’t doing enough because of the negative opinions of others that they had about me. I believed their lies. Reviewing my own resume has opened my eyes to see that I’m passionate, hardworking, motivated, and creative. I have so much more to offer and my true potential is just being released and realized! I hope that by reviewing my professional CV resume, you too will feel motivated to review your own credentials, skills, and experiences to recognize that you are a remarkable individual who is just getting started. The sky is the limit and now is the time to #hustlehard and to #nevergiveup on your dreams and goals.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

I’ve come to realize that a part of my purpose in life is to be the person who builds the door of opportunity; not to just solely look for an opportunity to advance myself. The beauty of the Black community is that when one of us succeed, we all succeed! We celebrate the accomplishments of those who came before us because they enable us to believe that we can aim that high as well. I’ve been pounding the pavement for 10 solid years; pursuing my career in Acting. Instead of growing discouraged and giving up to simply settle; I’ve dug my high heels in. I firmly believe that it’s only a matter of time now. Throughout my journey, I’ve gained experience through auditioning and performing with a diverse group of actors from all walks of life. Also making connections with directors and producers that have assisted in cultivating my technique. Ambitious is the word that I use to describe myself. I don’t take “no” for an answer; always eager to find a solution to any situation. As a result, I’ve grown to become more patient as I search for the resolution. In my late teens and early twenties, I was concerned about becoming “famous”. As I enter my thirties, I’ve become more concerned about being able to realistically execute my ideas, dreams, and goals. My perspective has evolved as well as my motive for being an artist. I celebrate my accomplishments and what I’ve been blessed to do thus far in my life. Right now, I’m in the process of building my “door of opportunity”. I don’t have to stay stuck in the position of just “knocking on the door of opportunity”; hoping that it will give me a chance (looking past my race and gender-not holding it against me like I’m incompetent, disabled, or unworthy). One way to accomplish this vision of mine is in obtaining my Bachelors Degree in Business Administration Management from Western Governors University. This degree will enrich me with the knowledge of how to properly manage my business in the arts (that will specifically focus on Script Development and Screenwriting). As an educated artistic professional in the Entertainment Industry; I will be able to effectively utilize my skills to make my dreams a reality. This will, without a doubt, enable me to create opportunities for other Black artistic professionals. We will work collectively in a joint effort that will highlight our talents; giving recognition to the rich culture and community that we originated from. As an actress, screenwriter, singer, model, and overall artist (with a business-mind); building my own door (and doors) will allow me to fully realize my dreams and unleash my hidden potential. I will leave that finished door open for my brothers and sisters to enter through soon after me! Instead of waiting for change to come, I will be the change and change the game!
