Pour It On Me: The Rewards of Using Honey as a Face Wash

Updated: Jan 7, 2018

Hey honey!

I'm excited to pour out some info on the rewards of using honey to wash your face in the morning and/or at night. I came across this #aesthetic in 2015 and I personally don't use honey as often as others in my facial cleansing routine, but it is one for you to consider! I like using honey to wash my face because I enjoy the dewy glow that it gives to my skin once I pat my face dry after washing it off. But I had no idea that there was more to it than just an all natural glow.

Honey naturally cleans out the bacteria in your pores and treats acne. By applying a little honey to an unwanted pimple it removes the dirt stored up within the uninvited bump causing the pimple to dissolve the following day (I haven’t tried this technique myself but I’m told that it has a rapid effect).

Use raw honey ONLY and not the bear bottle honey or honey with extra ingredients in it (the ingredients should list only honey and not corn syrup, etc.) for the best results to get all of the benefits. I prefer to purchase raw honey from my local farmer's market, but major chain stores such as Walmart, Wholefoods, Trader Joe's, Giant Eagle, etc. carry raw honey on their shelves as well.

Through my research I’ve discovered that a lot of women have opted to use raw honey as their facial cleanser instead of name brand products. It is indeed cheaper and lasts longer  while treating your face the natural way! I use honey in my routine once in a while (usually on days when I wash my hair) because using it everyday will cause you to use up your supply faster and I haven't decided to use it in replacement of the other products I use to cleanse my face (such as ProActive's 3-step cleansers, charcoal bar, complexion bar). Honey as a face wash is a beneficial addition to your routine, but personally I don't think it's the only go-to that you should solely depend upon.

Nevertheless, using honey as a face wash allows your face to be clean while maintaining its natural oils. Applying honey to your face is also a great way to add vitamins B and C to your skin that are known for their nourishing properties and it is also a wrinkle reducer (providing you with smooth/moist skin).

The application of the raw honey you choose to purchase and use is simple. Just rinse off your face with warm water and scoop up or pour out a dollop of the honey into your palm, massage onto your face, and then rinse off with warm water; patting your face dry afterwards!

Sometimes I leave the honey on my face for a couple of minutes while I brush my teeth, but the only con with that is the honey drips everywhere making a little mess (other than that it's hassle free).

And there you have it: short and sweet! Below are a few links for you to reference as well as other bloggers' take on switching to honey in lieu of traditional name brand facial cleansers.
