Vapes have been trending for a hot minute now as the supposed alternative to smoking cigarettes. Some brands advertise that their vape products are to help smokers quit more effectively; yet vaping is known to still contain nicotine and other harmful contents. But how about breathing essential oils? Many people utilize essential oils and diffusers all in an effort to relax and be at ease. But with anything that is to be discussed; there are two sides with opposing views concerning the topic!
SUPPORTERS:
The founder of MONQ, Eric Fishman (MD), briefly expresses how and why he came up with his line of portable diffusers; stating on the brand’s site “(...) there are ways of improving people’s experiences of the world without steel, but rather with natural compounds. The same molecules that have grown on this earth since ancient times. They were used by generations of our ancestors who didn’t have any of today’s medical technology.”
Vapor Vanity highlights on their site that “A lot of the benefits of essential oils are derived from their calming flavor and scent. People enjoy flavors like tea tree, eucalyptus, and chamomile for relieving stress. There are also formulations designed to help cure insomnia, reduce headaches, and reduce anxiety.”
NAYSAYERS:
Adrienne Santos-Longhurst wrote a piece for Healthline.com in the spring of this year. She interviewed Dr. Susan Chiarito (“a family physician in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians”). Chiarito shares that “(...) the side effects of vaping essential oils depend on the oil used, and may include: coughing, bronchospasm, aggravation of asthma, itching, swelling of the throat” She also states in the article that “(...) long-term use could cause symptoms similar to any other type of inhaled product in the lungs, including worsening asthma, chronic bronchitis, frequent lung infections, and immune changes from frequent infections.”

MY OPINION:
Both sides admit that there isn’t enough research available yet to confirm or disprove the benefits of breathing essential oils. I’m obviously not a smoker even though I have tried a couple of times just for the heck of it (I suppose). I wasn’t doing it right to begin with, lol! I wasn’t inhaling the smoke and when I did, I was disgusted. I couldn’t fathom how people could do that multiple times throughout the day. It just didn’t feel natural.
But the thought of a portable diffuser that contains natural essential oils (that help the user to basically chill out organically) sounds appealing. I already know that this isn’t something that I would do all day everyday, but on occasion I can see myself using it. TRUTHFULLY I would encourage mothers-to-be to refrain from trying it until sometime after they give birth (if you have decided to breastfeed); consulting a physician.
As a Christian woman, I feel that this may be a bit controversial. My personal advice to fellow Christians is to take it to prayer and see what GOD reveals to you about it. I have decided to stay away from products that blatantly advertise and endorse anything that contradicts my Christian faith (such as Buddhism, yoga, etc). It stands out to me that MONQ doesn't identify its products as "vape" or "vaping", but as "personal diffusers" or "portable diffusers". The brand's pens are more like aromatheraphy at your finger tips; accessible anywhere! As of right now though, I haven’t tried using a portable diffuser...yet. I have done a little research on brands and will be trying one out soon. I plan to do a follow up in an AESTHETIC Friday Video where I review the product for your consideration!
So until then, I hope that this has answered any questions you may have had about vaping and portable diffusers. I also hope that you have gained a little more insight on the topic; elevating your #aesthetic!
