Adulting

When you're a teen and all of the adults in your life say in unison "time goes by fast", you tend to let the cliched truth go in one ear and out the other! Yet when you cross the threshold from adolescent to adult, you realize for yourself that time can catch you by surprise. I'm still amazed that it has been 10 years since I graduated high school. Life hasn't turned out how I had expected, but it has served up some special surprises that I never could've planned for. The life experience that I have thus far as an adult has enabled me to transform into the woman that I am today! I'm grateful for every moment, whether it be of joy or pain, because they were all experiences that refined me as a person. You can read books, talk to those who are older and wiser than you, and watch all of the TED Talks that you want; still life has a way of dropping the unexpected into your lap to see how you will manage it. Will it make you or break you? #Adulting isn't easy, but it doesn't have to be the bane of your existence either. Let's discuss a few ways that we can manage our #millenniallifestyles as adults; elevating our #aesthetic and our piece of mind!

Set Goals

Make realistic goals that are within your means. I'm all for dreamers and believers, but you shouldn't base your goals upon something trivial or a fantasy. Don't be afraid to start small such as taking a few voice lessons if you want to sing or working on raising your credit score if you want to get a loan to start a business. I personally set goals for myself daily; identifying the tasks that I want to accomplish for that day. This enables me to stay focused and committed on the things that I want to accomplish. I actually have to stop myself at times because I set too many goals for the day. It's one thing to think a thing, but it's another to take small yet steady steps towards making the conception a reality! Don't be afraid to embrace your #goals and don't feel silly like it's too late to begin. As long as there is still breath in your lungs, it's never too late!

Prioritize

Take care of the things that matter most. It's easy to get caught up with what's #trending; wanting to stay relevant. Yet, your needs should come before your wants. Don't put major needs aside in order to fulfill a want that isn't really necessary at this time. If your car needs new tires then don't wait until the last minute because you want to use that money to go on a trip or buy a new handbag. That is the thing about being an adult: we take responsibility for our actions by doing what's right and not what's convenient!

Keep Calm

Sometimes things can give you such anxiety that you just want to throw in the towel. Take the time to do things that give you pleasure; enabling you to stay calm when #adulting becomes annoying.

Simple things like taking a walk on a beautiful day, treating yourself to a latte, or buying yourself a little something can help to take the edge off. Life isn't as difficult or bad as it can seem at times. If we take notice of the simple things (not taking them for granted) then we can have a sense of relief when managing responsibilities becomes overwhelming.
